About this video
Executing a snap down from the over-the-back, or Russian grip, involves using your body weight to bring your opponent to their knees. To effectively perform this technique, follow these steps:
- Acquire the over-the-back grip on your opponent.
- Make your opponent step by taking a large step backward.
- As you step back, simultaneously drop your body weight to force your opponent down to their knees.
- If your opponent reaches for your leg, be prepared to sprawl to prevent their attack.
- Maintain control of the distance using the belt grip.
- Ensure that you use gravity to assist in bringing your opponent down, rather than relying solely on arm strength.
- Keep your leg that is closest to the opponent away and out of their reach to avoid giving them an opportunity to grab it.
- Stay sprawled and keep your legs positioned to prevent your opponent from being able to reach them.
Remember to focus on dropping your weight rather than pulling with your arms, and keep your legs sprawled and out of reach to maintain control and prevent counterattacks.
