About this video
Executing a sitting armbar from an opposite side lapel sleeve grip involves a spiral downward movement to off-balance the opponent using body weight and gravity, not muscle strength. The technique is a precursor to the flying armbar and is effective on its own.
- Start with a tight grip on the opponent's sleeve and lapel, controlling their shoulder.
- Position your shin across the opponent's belly as you sit to their side, aiming to off-balance them in the direction you are sitting.
- As you sit, prepare to swing your other leg over the opponent's head, creating a crescent moon shape with your body movement.
- Execute the sitting motion to your right, which brings the opponent down into the armbar position.
- Ensure your left leg is ready to swing over their face as you complete the armbar.
- Remember to use your body weight and gravity to your advantage, avoiding reliance on muscular strength for the takedown.
- The key to the technique is the spiral motion and the drop of your body weight, which forces the opponent into a vulnerable position for the armbar submission.
