About this video

Executing a shoulder lock from the kesa-gatame position following a fireman carry:

  1. After completing the fireman carry, maintain a tight hug on the opponent's arm to prevent their escape.
  2. Roll over to the kesa-gatame position, ensuring to keep contact with the opponent's arm throughout the transition.
  3. In kesa-gatame, keep one leg straight to block the opponent's bridging escape and the other leg ready to apply pressure.
  4. Keep the opponent's head off the mat to prevent bridging and apply compression to their chest.
  5. If the opponent starts to frame against you, use your body weight to push their arm down, not just your arm strength.
  6. As they push up, lean into it and slip your head under their arm, guiding it to the desired position.
  7. Once their arm is pushed down, catch it under your leg to secure the shoulder lock.
  8. The speed of applying the lock may vary depending on the flexibility of the opponent's shoulders.
  9. Keep control of the arm that was under the opponent during the fireman carry, as it will be the same arm under their neck in kesa-gatame.
  10. When the opponent frames to defend, allow them to push and then catch their arm, securing it under your shoulder for the lock.

This technique demonstrates a simple shoulder lock transition from the fireman carry, utilizing the two-on-one Russian tie to set up the submission.
