About this video
Executing a foot sweep from the Russian Belt Grip over the far side shoulder involves several key steps:
- Protect the lead leg by keeping it back and pinching the elbow to prevent exposure.
- Use the sprawled leg, in this case, the right leg, as the sweeping leg aiming for the opponent's ankle with the sole of the foot.
- Avoid clashing ankles by using the sole of the foot, which is stronger and facilitates hip rotation necessary for the sweep.
- Take a large outside step with the non-sweeping leg to align both participants' feet in a straight line, which disrupts balance like walking on a tightrope.
- As the sweep is executed, lift the opponent, similar to a suplex motion, to elevate them onto their toes and facilitate the throw.
- Perform the sweep at full speed, stepping in, using the sole of the foot for the sweep, and lifting to bring the opponent over.
- After completing the throw, land in a strong side control position, maintaining chest-to-chest contact, and transition to your preferred side control setup.
It is crucial to maintain good bodily contact after the throw and control the opponent on the ground to effectively finish the technique.
