About this video
Establishing the Russian belt grip over the far side shoulder involves several steps to effectively control the opponent's posture and prevent defensive actions.
- Start with a conventional sleeve and lapel grip while the opponent has grips on your sleeve or jacket.
- Switch to an opposite lapel grip to prepare for the grip transition.
- Perform a small snap down to break the opponent's posture.
- Slide your arm over the opponent's back to pry their grip free as your arm reaches for the belt.
- Sprawl the leg nearest to the opponent's free arm back to prevent them from regaining control.
- Prevent the opponent from taking your back by pinching your elbow downward and leaning into them, making them support your weight.
- Maintain this position, with the option to bury your head for additional control, until ready to execute a takedown.
This grip provides significant control over the opponent, setting up opportunities for takedowns and further attacks.
