About this video
Executing the traditional sitting throw, known as "Podsat" in Russian, begins with securing a two-on-one Russian grip. The mnemonic 'Podsat' signifies sitting, which is integral to the technique.
- Start by establishing the two-on-one grip on your opponent's arm.
- Position yourself so that your opponent's leg is in front of yours, as if you are behind them.
- Proceed to sit directly behind your opponent, ensuring that as you bend your knee, it presses against the back of their knee, creating a pushing motion on their leg.
- As you sit down, continue to push their knee forward with your own, which will naturally take your opponent backwards.
- This action applies a shoulder lock similar to an Americana, forcing your opponent to follow your movement to the ground.
- Once your opponent is taken down, you have the option to transition to side control or maintain control by placing your leg over them.
- It's important to time the throw with your opponent's forward movement, meeting their step with your knee to disrupt their stance and execute the throw.
- After sitting and pushing their knee with yours, secure the position by bringing your leg over your opponent to keep them in place.
This technique effectively breaks the opponent's balance and allows for various control options on the ground.
