About this video
Executing a short shoulder lock from the scarf position:
- Slide your forearm behind the opponent's elbow, reaching towards your hand behind their back.
- Pinch the opponent's wrist with your arm to prevent them from straightening it out and escaping.
- Ensure the pinch forces the opponent's arm to bend at a 90-degree angle, which is the position needed to attack the shoulder.
- Grab your own hand and perform a curling motion to apply the lock.
- Compress by pushing the opponent's elbow towards their shoulder while lifting to secure the shoulder lock.
- Avoid common mistakes such as not sliding deep enough behind the arm or failing to pinch the wrist.
- Use your stomach as a guide to ensure you are deep enough behind the arm before reaching out the other side to complete the lock.
This technique results in a quick and effective shoulder lock when the opponent's arm is not available for an armbar or arm triangle.
