About this video
Executing a rolling kneebar begins with securing a deep grip over the back to the belt or mid-back in the jacket, which allows for better control over the opponent's torso. This grip is essential to avoid the common error of stretching the arm out without pulling the opponent down during the roll.
- Position yourself so the opponent's leg is between your legs, with different control positions available, such as a scissor entry.
- When rolling, reach deep between your outer leg and the opponent's leg, ensuring to underhook his leg deeply and hug it rather than just grabbing with your hand.
- Practice the roll with the opponent squatting and supporting your weight to avoid injury and gain confidence in the movement.
- During the roll, kick up the leg that's reaching between and ensure you come out of the roll hugging the opponent's leg with your whole arm, not just your hand.
- Extend the opponent's leg while keeping the knee straight by placing a hand on the heel.
- Practice rolling underneath yourself rather than rolling forward, reaching as far back as possible to secure the leg.
- Gradually increase the speed of the roll as you become more confident, always ensuring to protect your head and maintain control of the leg.
It is critical to commit fully to the technique, ensuring that the roll is executed underneath the opponent to maintain control of the leg for a successful kneebar submission.
