About this video

Transitioning from a sacrificial back trip to a scarf hold is crucial for maintaining control. Keep pressure on the opponent's shoulder to prevent them from squirming away. Slide under for the scarf hold, ensuring the opponent's head is lifted off the mat to limit their bridging ability. Maintain a straight leg to block any bridging attempts.

  1. When the opponent tries to get close to your back, hook their near leg with your arm.
  2. If the opponent turns on their side, it's an opportunity to hook the leg, whether they initiated the movement or not.
  3. Abandon the scarf hold and use your leg to pull the opponent's knee towards you to set up the kneebar.
  4. Apply the kneebar by holding the opponent's toes and steering with your hand on their heel.
  5. If the opponent starts moving towards your back, hook their leg, transition from the scarf hold to the kneebar position, and apply pressure.
  6. To ensure control and prevent escape, trap the opponent's free leg by hooking it and pulling it close, creating a leg knot position before finishing the kneebar.

This technique effectively transitions from a throw to a submission, maintaining control throughout and finishing with a secure kneebar.
