About this video

Ankle lace attack or heel hook setup from a scissor takedown:

  1. Begin with a scissor takedown setup, but instead of attacking the near leg as in a kneebar, target the far leg.
  2. For safety, especially if new to the technique, have your partner support your weight during practice.
  3. Drop your leg behind your opponent's legs, similar to a normal scissor takedown, and roll to the side across your shoulders.
  4. Reach for the far leg with an overhook, as opposed to the underhook used in the kneebar setup.
  5. As you fall, pull the opponent's far ankle to your armpit and go under their other leg, crossing your feet for control.
  6. If the opponent's knee is over their ankle, you have a kneebar setup; if their leg is stretched out, position your ankle against theirs.
  7. Execute the technique by pulling the leg and securing a gable grip, ensuring your legs are crossed for leverage.
  8. If the opponent manages to free the crossed leg, transition to a heel hook on the same leg or the other leg if available.
  9. Turn your body towards the leg you are attacking, maintaining the gable grip and applying pressure for the submission.

This technique offers the option to switch between an ankle lace and a heel hook depending on the opponent's reaction.
