About this video
Executing a choke from the mount position following an over-the-head throw involves using body weight to force the opponent to expose their neck. To secure the choke:
- After completing the throw, maintain pressure on the opponent's face to open up their neck.
- Slide a palm-up grip deep into the gi on the side of the neck that is exposed, ensuring the fist is close to the mat.
- Walk the body down low to the opponent, slide the other hand underneath, and grab the sleeve of the arm that is gripping the gi.
- Squeeze to apply the choke. The choke can sometimes be finished by just applying pressure with the body weight.
- For additional pressure, reach under, grab your own sleeve or the opponent's jacket, and drive your forearm down while squeezing.
It's important to reach for the gi from the open side of the opponent's neck, avoiding the chin and face. The Ezekiel choke can be finished by maintaining the initial grip from the throw or by adjusting the grip if necessary.
