About this video
Executing the Pancake throw from the Russian Tie, also known as the 2-on-1 grip:
- Start with a firm 2-on-1 grip on the opponent's arm, which can be established either from a counter or a grip break.
- Step to the outside towards the opponent's free arm with a big step, simultaneously sitting down to drop your weight.
- The near leg acts as the tripping leg. As you sit, bring this leg in front of the opponent to trip them.
- Ensure your whole body weight is directed over the tripping leg to bring the opponent down effectively, using gravity to your advantage.
- Maintain control of the opponent's wrist throughout the throw to manage their movement and secure a dominant position post-throw.
- Keep the motion constant and use gravity as your strongest asset, letting your body weight and gravity work together to execute the throw.
- Combine the step and sit into one fluid motion to off-balance and trip the opponent, ending with control of their arm.
- Remember that the throw is not complete until you have established control over your opponent, whether you transition to a dominant position or move into a submission like an armbar.
The Pancake is a versatile throw that can be adapted to various grips and directions, emphasizing the importance of control and the use of gravity to execute the technique efficiently.
