About this video
Executing the Long Step Pass against a guard pull involves precise timing and positioning:
- Anticipate your opponent's guard pull and be prepared with a collar grip on the opposite side of their collar grip.
- As they step on your hips to pull guard, switch your grip to their hips and perform a long step towards the side where you have the collar grip.
- It's crucial to act before your opponent organizes their legs and grips. The pass must be executed quickly and at the right moment.
- Instead of grabbing the triceps as in a regular grip, squat down with your hands ready to block their hip as they pull guard.
- When they pull, sprawl on top of their leg while keeping your hips low and start working towards the side with the collar grip.
- As you sprawl, open your collar grip and drop your elbow to initiate the long step, placing your forehead on their shoulder and keeping your head down.
- Depending on their leg movement, use your hands on the hips to block and control either the bottom or top leg.
- Push the hips away to create distance and sprawl on their leg, using your toes and slightly bent knees for leverage.
- Walk your elbow out and long step towards your opponent, maintaining balance with an open elbow.
- Control the legs by pushing the bottom leg away or blocking the top leg, depending on which one they use to counter.
- Finally, go onto your toes, drive towards your opponent, hug their head, and stabilize in side control.
