About this video
Here's a quick pass to escape from a reverse de la riva hook when the opponent doesn't have an ankle grip:
- Start by making a grip on the collar, either palm down or palm up, depending on your preference. Use the part of your hand to push the opponent and close your elbow tightly.
- Make another grip under the opponent's knee. The goal is to push their knee towards your knee, not downwards. This gives you a better angle to slide your knee.
- Begin to push the opponent down using the grip on the collar while slightly elevating yourself. This allows you to slide your knee over their shin. Your foot should be slightly off the mat.
- Once you've slid your knee over their shin, start to turn the leg towards the leg drag position. Drag the leg to the leg drag position and lean forward as much as possible, getting close to your hands over their shoulder.
- Release the grip and control the hips or control the collar with four fingers inside to stabilize the position. Keep the position tight and don't give the opponent any space.
- With the other grip, go to the knee and place your elbow over your leg to support your grip. Push the knee towards your knee.
- Start to extend your hips a little to create room to slide your knee over their shin while pushing them down. As you elevate, slide your knee over the shin.
- When you slide, drag the leg all the way to the other side. As you get there, slide and control the hips or grab their collar and stabilize the leg drag position.
