About this video
Executing a back step pass from half guard:
- Start in regular half guard with chest down, elbow blocking the opponent's hips to prevent knee shields, and hands on the mat for balance.
- If the opponent frames against you, circle your hand and lean forward to grip their head, keeping your elbow closed.
- Walk your leg in to flatten the opponent's hips and shift your hips to the mat, applying shoulder pressure and looking down.
- Push the opponent's leg down with your palm up and place your knee outside while keeping the other knee in their hips.
- If the opponent pushes your knee and obtains an underhook, post your hand on the mat and back step to the reverse De La Riva position.
- Lean forward, bring your heel to your buttocks, and hook the opponent's leg with a windshield wiper motion.
- Control the opponent's knee with one hand and hug their head with the other, applying shoulder pressure and using a knee shield to protect yourself.
- Push the opponent's leg down with your palm up and slide your hips out, keeping the opponent's hips sideways.
- Use your toes to push on the opponent's leg and free your leg, stepping on their leg to control it.
- Stabilize and secure control by replacing your leg and maintaining head pressure.
