About this video

Executing a knee slide pass against a De la Riva guard with a pant grip involves several steps to maintain balance and control while passing:

  1. Start by ensuring a low base with knees in and hips heavy to maintain balance. Use a C-grip on the ankle or grip the pants to control the opponent's leg.
  2. Push the opponent's leg down with your elbow close to your body to prevent bicep slicer submissions.
  3. Escape the De la Riva hook by pushing the leg down, popping your hips, and walking your leg out to prevent the hook from re-engaging. Keep your leg fully extended.
  4. Perform a back step to further push the leg down and then jump over the opponent's leg.
  5. Change your grip to open the opponent's knee, using a cup grip on the knee and the other hand palm up to create space for an underhook.
  6. Post your hand and simultaneously secure an underhook while performing a knee cut, leaning on top of the opponent in one fluid motion.
  7. Once the grip is broken, you can either control the opponent's shoulder or post your hand on the mat.
  8. If the opponent tries to block your hand, swing your arm to secure an overhook.
  9. Apply pressure with your elbow and slide your knee to pass the guard.
  10. After passing, walk back towards the opponent's hips, flatten them out, pull their arm up, and stabilize the position.
  11. If the opponent's collar grip is uncomfortable, break it by extending your leg and sitting back, forcing them to sit up. Then, break the grip and return to an upright posture.
  12. When jumping over the leg, pinch your knees to prevent the opponent from using hooks and flip you over.
  13. Push one knee down and open the other to make the opponent's legs form a 'V', creating space for the underhook.
  14. Post your hands to move towards the head side, drop your head down, and secure the underhook to break the grip.
  15. Block the opponent's head, secure the overhook, keep your head down, and pinch your elbow to control the opponent as you slide your knee to complete the pass.
