About this video
Escaping from De La Riva involves pushing the opponent's De La Riva hook down while popping your leg out and walking your toes to fully extend your leg and point your knee outward. To jump over the opponent's leg, perform small back steps and leap over, placing your knee under their leg.
- From the De La Riva position, push the opponent's leg down and pop your leg out to escape the hook.
- Walk your toes to extend your leg fully, ensuring your knee points outward.
- Perform small back steps and jump over the opponent's leg, placing your knee under it.
- Use a grip to open the opponent's knee and grab their wrist, pulling it up while posting your hand for balance.
- Lean forward on the opponent and avoid pushing too much to maintain control.
- Release the grip and slide your knee over their leg, hugging the head in preparation for a long step.
- Execute the long step to clear the legs, controlling the opponent's leg and pushing it if visible.
- Keep your toes on the mat and walk towards the opponent to stabilize the position, maintaining shoulder pressure and keeping your hips high.
Throughout the technique, maintain posture with hips low and knees in, ensuring the opponent no longer has the De La Riva hook. When finishing with the long step, keep your head down and apply shoulder pressure.
