About this video
Executing a leg drag pass from De La Riva when unable to break the opponent's grip on the ankle:
- Start with the opponent having De La Riva and collar grip. Make a pistol grip on the opponent's pants to use your elbow to pop their leg off your hips and into the air, which is crucial for the leg drag.
- Escape from De La Riva by pushing the opponent's leg down and popping your leg out to create space. Close your elbow towards your hand and use a C grip to grab the opponent's ankle.
- When performing the leg drag, do not drag the leg to the side; instead, drag it onto your lap. As you do this, let go of the pants grip and start to grip the opponent's knee for better control.
- Release the pants grip and slide down to drop your shoulder and grab the opponent's collar to stabilize the position.
- Ensure your knee is outside when escaping De La Riva. Walk your leg a bit if necessary to achieve this.
- After lifting the opponent's legs into the air and securing the ankle grip, drag the leg across to your lap and grip the knee.
- Let go of the pants grip and slide down, dropping your shoulder. Your knee goes to the mat as you drag, and your grip transitions to the collar.
- Block the opponent's leg with your elbow, not just by placing it there, but by connecting your knee with your elbow and leaning forward over the opponent's shoulder to secure the position.
