About this video
Executing a Toreando Pass against De la Riva guard with pant grip control:
- Begin by addressing the pant grip control. If it's causing discomfort, break the grip.
- Instead of grabbing high on the leg, secure a grip closer to the knee, on the shin, mirroring this grip on the other leg.
- Use the grips to push the leg down. Simultaneously pop your leg free and push your opponent's knee towards their chest.
- Ensure your leg moves far away from your opponent to prevent them from re-establishing the De la Riva hook.
- While maintaining pressure on their knee, drag the leg that was in De la Riva control down and between their legs.
- Slide your knee over their arm to break the grip on your pants.
- Secure head control and stabilize your position by dragging their knee to the mat.
This sequence allows you to clear the De la Riva hook and establish a dominant position while preventing common counters such as stepping to the biceps or re-hooking the De la Riva.
