About this video

Executing a long step pass against a De la Riva guard with a pant grip:

  1. Begin by controlling the opponent's non-De la Riva leg to prevent them from stepping on your biceps or off-balancing you.
  2. Push down on the De la Riva hook and simultaneously lift your trapped leg to start freeing it.
  3. Walk your foot outwards to position your knee over the opponent's shin, which is essential for breaking their pant grip.
  4. Slide your knee across their shin while at the same time hugging their head to initiate the long step pass.
  5. As you perform the long step, the pant grip should break. Immediately control the opponent's bottom leg to prevent them from re-establishing guard.
  6. Finalize the pass by fighting against their legs with your hands and walking towards their head to stabilize the position.
