About this video
Opening and passing the closed guard with a stack pass involves a series of steps to maintain control and apply pressure:
- Start in the closed guard with good posture, on bent toes, and never let your head drop.
- Set up grips by controlling both lapels and transferring one grip to the other hand to apply pressure on the opponent.
- Change the angle and use the heels of your hands to push the opponent down, keeping your arm extended and elbows connected.
- Decide which leg to stand up with, the same side you control the pants, to prevent the opponent from going under your leg.
- Post the chosen leg, pinch your knee against the opponent's hip, and use your toes to stand up while maintaining pressure on their chest.
- Release the collar grip and push the opponent's knee down, dropping your knee to the mat while keeping the other knee up to prevent re-closure of the guard.
- Grab the opponent's knee with one hand and go under their leg with the other, reaching for the collar and closing your elbow.
- Ensure your palm is down and your knee blocks the opponent's hip to prevent them from locking a triangle.
- Lean forward to stack the opponent, forcing them to frame against your hips.
- Lift your knee slightly and slide it over the opponent's biceps, maintaining control of their knee and the mat.
- Pass the guard by opening your chest and sliding through, securing side control with your head down and elbow over the opponent's body.
- Adjust your position by hugging the opponent's head, grabbing the armpit, and applying shoulder pressure to their face.
- Finally, establish a solid side control with your toes on the mat and your weight distributed evenly.
