About this video
Passing the spider lasso guard requires patience and a series of steps:
- Start with your opponent having a spider on one side and a lasso on the other. They will likely apply pressure with their leg and extend the spider guard.
- Grab the belt with the hand in the lasso and close your elbow. This grip can be made without going to your knees.
- Focus on escaping the spider guard first. Maintain balance and prevent your opponent from going under your legs. Apply pressure on their legs by bringing your left hand behind their knee and start to circle your hands.
- Let go of the grip, circle your hands, close your elbow, and extend your arm to make a better grip. Do not let your opponent step on your biceps again.
- To escape the lasso, let go of the grip, close your hands, and bring your knee to your hands. Push your hands outside and step outside with your knee. This gives you leverage to make a grip on their leg.
- Put yourself in a reversal arriva, knee's like position, to pass with that grip. This leads to the leg trap pass. Control the leg, keep your shoulder in, and look to the side. Keep the knee down.
- Tri-pod on top of your opponent and start to go all the way around. Drag their leg and do the leg drag. As you do the leg drag, let go of the knee, drag their knee, control the collar, and stabilize in the leg drag position.
Remember to maintain a good body posture throughout, keeping your elbows in. If your opponent has a strong lasso, use your legs to escape. Close your hands and bring your knee to your wrist. Step your leg, circle your hands, and trap their leg. Walk towards the reverse of the heel to the leg trap pass. It's important to have your shoulder in and your head down in this position. Trap the leg, apply pressure, push the knee down, and tri-pod. Go to the corner, drive the leg with your shoulder, and do the leg drag. Let go of the grip, drag the leg to finish the pass, go over, grab the collar, put your head down, and stabilize the pass.
