About this video
Executing the Long Step Pass against the Butterfly Guard involves the following steps:
- Maintain a low posture with elbows in, head down, and hips heavy to prevent the opponent from setting up the sweep.
- As the opponent attempts to get the other hook, control their back on the same side and place your forehead in the space near their head to block their movement.
- Secure a grip on the opponent's gi or triceps, preferring an overhook, and drop your head down to maintain control.
- Keep the opponent's knee pinned with your hand while raising your knee on the same side to go between their legs, and slide your other knee under them.
- Initiate the long step by driving the opponent and stepping long to escape their legs, placing your shoulder in their face.
- Walk towards side control, dropping your knee to the other side to stabilize the position.
- Maintain the initial grip for control or switch to grabbing the shoulder or armpit to solidify the side control position.
It's important to keep the hips high and shoulder in the opponent's face throughout the pass to ensure effective control and prevent their movement.
