About this video
Recovering guard from an under-over pass involves creating space and freeing the knee:
- When the opponent applies tripod pressure on the shoulder and starts moving towards the hips, use both hands to push their shoulder away.
- Avoid pulling the opponent closer as this will worsen the position. Instead, push and apply downward pressure on the opponent's leg.
- Step on the floor with the outside leg and pinch the knee to maintain pressure.
- Focus on freeing the knee by pushing the opponent and moving the hips to the side, away from the opponent's pressure.
- As the opponent tries to re-establish control, push their biceps to free the knee and gain hip control.
- If the opponent grips the belt, switch the grip to the front of their shoulder.
- Use the outside leg to push the opponent away and recover guard by pumping the inside leg.
- Keep the back of the head on the floor and maintain frames to prevent the opponent from pinching the knees and regaining control.
- Slide the frame closer to the opponent's biceps to fully free the knee, then step on their hips and push away to complete the guard recovery.
