About this video
Escaping the north-south position involves proper framing and hip movement. Avoid hugging the opponent, as this is a common mistake among beginners. Instead, keep both hands inside for an easier escape.
- Frame against the opponent by placing your hands inside as they move to north-south.
- Slide your hips to one side while simultaneously pushing the opponent in the opposite direction.
- Use your heels to slide your body down and create space.
- Bring your knees towards your chest, with one knee framing against their shoulder and the other leg stepping over the opponent.
- Push to create more space and recover your guard.
- Practice the movement by drilling side-to-side hip escapes, framing, stepping, and guard recovery.
This drill helps in becoming comfortable with the movements required to escape the north-south position and recover guard.
