About this video

When losing momentum during a guard pass, maintain a strong frame and use the following steps to recover:

  1. As the opponent begins to drag, step the bottom leg on the floor.
  2. Push against the opponent and simultaneously bring the leg back, moving the chest to create space.
  3. This movement should provide enough space to recover the legs back into guard.
  4. For more flexibility, step on the opponent's shoulder to aid in replacing the guard.
  5. Keep the frame intact throughout the movement, either stepping on the shoulder to replace the guard or simply moving to recover guard position.
  6. This technique is particularly useful when significantly behind in the guard pass sequence.
