About this video
Defending against the Knee Slide Pass with Reverse De La Riva:
- Initiate a Reverse De La Riva Hook to control distance as the opponent transitions from open guard to knee slide.
- Use the hook to push and pull, maintaining distance and setting up for attacks.
- Stop the opponent's knee from touching the floor by using a frame and stepping on their hips or using a Lasso if you're flexible.
- Keep your frame strong to prevent the opponent from hugging your head and break their collar grip if they establish one.
- Grab their collar and use your chest to push away and break the grip, then circle your hand to control their arm.
- Place your elbow inside your knee to support and prevent them from smashing your knee.
- If the grip break is unsuccessful, frame against the opponent's face and push them away to create space.
- Grab the sleeve, break the grip, and push the opponent's arm inside while re-establishing collar control.
- Use your knuckles to push their arm inside and place your elbow under your knee for support.
- Drop your leg to the floor and push the opponent away, not backward but to the side, to create space.
- Once space is created, step on the hips and square up to regain an open guard position.
- Throughout the process, maintain a strong frame and use your flexibility to your advantage, whether by stepping on the hips or using a Lasso.
