About this video
Recovering De La Riva when the opponent grips the collar and attempts to pass:
- As the opponent grabs the collar and uses their elbow to pop out your De La Riva hook, be ready to react.
- When they jump over your leg and squat down, immediately place your leg inside, against their knee, to prevent them from passing.
- With your opponent squatting, you'll find it difficult to bring them over using a frame in the face. Instead, post your elbow on the floor to create space.
- Push your opponent back with your elbow to generate momentum. As they react and start to come back, slide your Reverse De La Riva hook to their knee.
- Instead of pulling them over, direct them to the side by pulling on their pants grip and using your Reverse De La Riva hook behind their knee.
- Maintain the collar grip and step on their thigh with your other foot.
- Bend your leg and transition back into the De La Riva guard, re-establishing control.
