About this video

Recovering De La Riva when the opponent grips the collar and attempts to pass:

  1. As the opponent grabs the collar and uses their elbow to pop out your De La Riva hook, be ready to react.
  2. When they jump over your leg and squat down, immediately place your leg inside, against their knee, to prevent them from passing.
  3. With your opponent squatting, you'll find it difficult to bring them over using a frame in the face. Instead, post your elbow on the floor to create space.
  4. Push your opponent back with your elbow to generate momentum. As they react and start to come back, slide your Reverse De La Riva hook to their knee.
  5. Instead of pulling them over, direct them to the side by pulling on their pants grip and using your Reverse De La Riva hook behind their knee.
  6. Maintain the collar grip and step on their thigh with your other foot.
  7. Bend your leg and transition back into the De La Riva guard, re-establishing control.
