About this video
Recovering from a knee slide pass when the Reverse De La Riva hook is lost involves maintaining a knee shield and a strong frame. The following steps outline the recovery process:
- Keep the knee shield in place and position it slightly more across the opponent's body to prevent them from getting too close.
- Ensure the heel of the bottom leg does not connect to the buttocks; instead, keep it tight to maintain distance from the opponent.
- If the opponent grabs the sleeve, circle the arm to break the grip and grab their sleeve instead.
- Move the chest and shoulder away from the opponent to create space and hide the elbow.
- Place the bottom leg flat on the floor and use it to push against the opponent while sliding the leg out.
- Once the bottom leg is free, step on the opponent's hips to square up and establish an open guard.
Throughout this process, it's crucial to maintain a tight frame and prevent the opponent from connecting their heel to their buttocks, which would allow them to close the distance. The knee shield should be positioned in the middle of the opponent's chest, and the bottom leg should be used effectively to push and create the necessary space to recover the guard.
