About this video

Drill for defending the stack pass using hip framing and elbow push:

  1. Begin by framing the knee on the mat to create a base.
  2. Use the opposite leg to push against the opponent and create space for a guard replacement.
  3. As the opponent goes under for the stack pass, maintain the same grip.
  4. Control the hips, frame against the opponent, and shift the hips to the side.
  5. Start pushing the knee inside towards the opponent.
  6. With the other leg, use a palm-heel push to create additional space.
  7. Replace the guard by turning and pushing with the palm-heel, while the framed knee goes out.
  8. Repeat the drill: frame the hips, push with the knee, turn, and use the palm-heel push to replace the guard.
