About this video
When an opponent tightly controls your hips, you may feel the need to risk exposing your back to recover guard. As they move to the side and attempt an arm drag, adjust your framing by moving your elbow to the other side and placing your hands with the elbow slightly raised to prevent being smashed.
- Keep your elbow up to create space and lift the opponent's head slightly.
- Step your leg over and transition onto your shoulder.
- Protect your back by tucking your elbow inside, preventing the opponent from securing a hook.
- Lift your hips and retract your leg to complete the guard recovery.
This sequence is crucial for preventing back takes and maintaining a defensive posture while working to regain guard.
