About this video
Recovering from a half guard pass involves a series of defensive movements and transitions to regain a favorable position. When the opponent attempts to pass by shifting their hips and controlling the head and shoulder, it's crucial to prevent them from flattening you out and achieving side control.
- Keep your feet on the ground and pinch your knees together to maintain a strong frame and prevent the opponent from advancing.
- Push the opponent down with your frames while simultaneously sliding your body away to create leverage for an escape.
- Regain control of the opponent's arm and re-establish your frames, bringing your knees close to your chest.
- Post on your elbow to sit up, ensuring your leg is now deeper inside the opponent's leg.
- As the opponent tries to reposition, move your hips to the side and place your knees in a shield position to transition into a half spider guard.
- Control the opponent's collar, move your chest away, paddle your leg, and use the momentum to replace the guard.
Throughout this sequence, it's essential to maintain frames and use them effectively to create space and off-balance the opponent. This allows for the recovery of guard and prevents the opponent from solidifying their top position.
