About this video
Recovering full guard from half-knee shield involves addressing the common weave or crazy dog pass where the opponent controls the bottom leg and collar. To counter this:
- Keep your knee close to their knee and your toes down when their knee is on the floor. If they lift their knee, switch to Reverse De La Riva by pointing your toes up.
- Use the hook of your foot on their back to control distance. Ensure your heel isn't too close to their butt to prevent them from smashing your leg.
- Frame against their collarbone with your knuckles to create space and discomfort.
- To break their grip on your leg, use inside control and a cup grip on their arm. Move your chest to push their arm and break the grip.
- Once the grip is broken, control the arm, hide your elbow, and pummel to recover guard.
- Square up to your opponent, extend your leg to break their remaining grip, and bring them into closed guard.
- Another method to break the grip is to use a spider grip on their sleeve. Briefly release the collar, connect your hands, and break the grip.
- Push their arm inside, hide your elbow, and move your chest away. Pummel, step on their hips, square up, and extend your leg to fully recover to closed guard.
Remember to keep your framing hand's elbow inside and use the spider grip effectively to break their control and recover guard.
