About this video

Executing the Twist Sweep from half guard involves using your opponent's pressure against them. Maintain a tight knee-to-elbow connection on both sides, creating a shell with minimal space. When your opponent pushes into you, release your leg frame and shift your body to the side, using your elbow to guide their movement.

  1. As your opponent pushes, let your leg pass by their body while moving your own body out of the way, using your elbow to deflect them.
  2. Feint an omoplata by bringing your leg up high, which will likely cause your opponent to push back into you.
  3. Block their elbow to prevent them from posting, and prepare to use their momentum against them.
  4. Position your shin in front of their hips, pull your heel into the bend of their knee, and step on your ankle with your other foot.
  5. As they push into you, twist your hips towards the back corner, not upwards as in a bridge, to overturn their hips.
  6. After completing the sweep, you have options such as advancing to half guard or setting up a rolling back take.
  7. For the rolling back take, move your knee across their hip, hook your foot, bring their leg down, and roll into position.
  8. Once in position, you can cycle their leg down, pin their arm, and look for submissions such as the police lock or rear naked choke.
