About this video
Defending against the over-under pass involves a series of steps to prevent the opponent from successfully passing the guard. When the opponent attempts to pass with the over-under, the first action is to make the leg heavy across their neck. Simultaneously, grab both of their elbows and pull to create a 'steering wheel' effect, controlling their movement.
- Apply pressure with your leg against the opponent's neck and pull their elbows to keep them open and prevent them from closing the distance.
- Use your right leg to hook inside and touch the floor, setting up the next movement.
- As the opponent continues to pass, move your head away from them, bring your leg across their body, and use their momentum against them.
- Swing your leg outwards with force, placing your right foot on the floor and twisting your hips to disrupt their base.
- Control the opponent's arm to prevent them from posting and pin their knee to limit their movement.
- When the opponent pushes back, extend your hips to the back corner, taking advantage of the momentary opening in their leg grip.
- Quickly bring your knee up to your chest, pointing your toe, to set up for a triangle or omoplata submission.
- Lock your feet and decide whether to finish with a triangle choke or transition to an omoplata, depending on your preference.
This sequence not only defends against the over-under pass but also creates opportunities for submissions by capitalizing on the opponent's reactions and openings.
