About this video

Initiate the Reverse De la Riva sweep by establishing a hook inside the opponent's hip and controlling underneath your knee. Place your foot on the opponent's shoulder and secure grips on their collar and sleeve.

  1. Off-balance the opponent by pushing their arm into their hip and your foot into their shoulder, extending your arm to create space.
  2. When the opponent reacts to regain balance, pull them across your body and rock back, loading them onto your shins.
  3. Position your foot under their knee, look over your shoulder, and execute the sweep by kicking your legs back.
  4. Immediately transition into a Kimura attack as you come up from the sweep.
  5. Consider the grips on the collar and sleeve as leverage points, like pushing the bottom of a stick with the sleeve grip while using your arm and leg to tilt and sweep the opponent.
  6. As the opponent tries to recover, load them up and complete the sweep, then secure the Kimura grip.
