About this video
Executing a sweep from the Reverse De la Riva position to take the opponent's back:
- Start in the Reverse De la Riva guard and initiate a spin under the opponent.
- As your head goes under the opponent's hips, stop the spin and use your left arm to catch their hip.
- Pull your legs down and feed the opponent's leg to your hook.
- Move to your side, inserting your foot to control the opponent's arm and establish the twister hook with your legs.
- Ensure your hips are sealed to the opponent's back and maintain a tight grip to prevent them from inserting their hand between you.
- Use your other foot on the ground to tip the opponent over their shoulder, where they have no base, due to your grip on their arm.
- Once they are tipped over, place your foot on your other foot and kick straight down the line of your legs.
- Release the grip with your hand, reestablish the grip, and you're back in the control position from earlier.
- Apply the twister hook, pulling the opponent in two directions, then sit them up and apply a police lock.
- Finish by coming behind the opponent's back and neck to secure the choke.
With sufficient drilling, this movement can be performed quickly and smoothly, leading directly to a strong back control position.
