About this video

Securing the back from the underhook position in Reverse De La Riva can be achieved through the backside double leg technique, which is applicable in both gi and no-gi. The following steps outline the process:

  1. Start by using the outside leg to switch control of the opponent's right leg from your right leg to your left, hooking inside of their ankle and pulling back to create torque.
  2. Reach under the opponent's buttocks with the underhooking arm, maintaining the whizzer, and begin to rise up through the opponent without removing your leg.
  3. Keep your head up and posture strong as you reach for the opponent's knee, ensuring your shoulder is positioned under their buttocks.
  4. Drive forward pressure into the opponent, holding their knee to prevent them from retracting it, and continue to apply pressure to break them down to the mat.
  5. As you maintain pressure, hop over the top of their legs and move up to secure the seatbelt grip.
  6. During the transition, pull your heel to your buttocks to increase the torque on the opponent's leg, and switch your feet to shelf their ankle on top of your hip.
  7. Keep driving forward and up, reaching for the opponent's other knee, and once they are flattened, crawl up their back to establish control.
  8. It's crucial to maintain constant pressure, smearing the opponent into the ground, to prevent them from being able to counter or escape.

This technique is a powerful attack that can be used effectively in both gi and no-gi scenarios to gain a dominant back control position.
