About this video
Executing the Jedi Mind Trick from Reverse De La Riva involves managing distance and using frames inside the opponent's arms. If the opponent pressures in, pummel your arm under their armpit, drop the Reverse De La Riva hook, and bring them over you. This may seem risky, but it sets a trap by securing a deep underhook and relying on their knee for balance.
- Trap the opponent's ankle and bring your forearm inside their knee, keeping your elbow close to your body. Avoid reaching high around their back until you're ready to throw them over.
- Your forearm acts as a barrier to prevent their hip from reaching the floor behind you.
- When the opponent starts to step back, pass their foot to your other foot, using your forearm to chop down their knee and hook under their ankle.
- Move your upper body out of the way, extend your leg slightly, and throw your elbow over the top of their hip, gripping it firmly.
- Close your elbow into the crease of their hip to control their movement.
- As you rise, pull their hips down and get your shoulder under their armpit, setting up for potential arm triangles.
- If the opponent doesn't backstep, you may be able to get up behind them. This incentivizes them to backstep, which you can exploit.
- Once you've passed the foot and moved your body, extend to drop them off your hips, close your forearm on the crease of their hip, and climb up as if over a building.
- Push up from this position to secure the arm triangle as you get underneath their armpit.
