About this video
Establish an underhook from the half guard to set up the Half Guard Breakdown sweep.
- Maintain a strong underhook and dive in to control the opponent's hips.
- Pull the opponent towards you while knocking out their knee with your right leg.
- Hook your left foot underneath the opponent's leg and pinch their leg between yours, preventing them from posting with that leg.
- If the opponent maintains a whizzer (overhook) on your right arm, start to tilt them to the side. If they don't counter, proceed to sweep them.
- When you begin to tilt them, they will likely remove the whizzer to post with their hand. Use this moment to push on their knee to break their base.
- Hook your arm inside their leg and get up on your elbow.
- Remove your right foot and place your knee behind their knee, then stand up behind them.
- From here, you can choose your next move. One option is to shoot your arm up and around their neck while maintaining control inside their thigh with your other arm.
- Throw in your hook and climb to take the opponent's back.
- Apply pressure on the opponent's hips to make it difficult for them to whizzer and prevent them from countering effectively.
This technique creates significant pressure on the opponent's hips, making it challenging for them to counter without risking a fall, allowing you to transition to their back.
