About this video
Building off the previous technique, the focus is on securing an armbar from the Reverse De La Riva position. Begin by going underneath the opponent to establish position. Use the right foot to hook under the opponent's far armpit, on the ribs. The next step involves pulling the opponent in with both knees and lifting with the legs to force them to post their hand on the mat.
- While pulling the opponent in, use the long hook as a lever to spin off of, ducking the head out.
- Lift the hooked leg up, simultaneously freeing the other leg, to make the opponent fall directly into the armbar position.
- Control the opponent's leg and secure the wrist to finish the armbar.
- The opponent is caught in a dilemma: post to avoid falling on their face or resist and get caught in the armbar.
- Execute the technique as one continuous motion: pull in with the legs and lift the opponent's leg to spin them into the armbar.
This technique is designed to off-balance the opponent and use their reaction to set up the armbar, rather than trying to maneuver around them. By pulling the opponent in and lifting, they are moved into the desired position, allowing for a seamless transition into the armbar submission.
