About this video
Counter the leg drag pass with a footlock when the opponent tries to block the spin underneath:
- Initiate a spin underneath your opponent. As they block with their bottom leg, grab it and hide your foot.
- Bring your knee over their hip, placing your shin across their hip to create a barrier that keeps their hips back.
- Adjust your position by placing your hand on the mat, closing your elbow, and moving your head slightly to the center.
- For the ankle grip, bring your arm in and turn your thumb out to expose the blade of your wrist against their foot.
- Hold onto their foot, move to the inside, and secure your grip on their leg. Reinforce the grip with your other hand if needed.
- Close your elbow tightly, widen your knees, and let your weight drop, applying pressure straight down into their foot.
- Ensure your elbows are closed and expand your chest before dropping your weight to finalize the footlock.
- Remember, as long as you control their foot, they cannot take your back. If you need to disengage, maintain control of the foot to prevent their technical stand-up.
- If you decide to abandon the footlock, you can always return to your original position, attempt the sweep again, or transition to a pass.
Maintain strong control throughout the technique, keeping your elbow tight and your weight focused into your hands as you drop down to apply the footlock.
