About this video

Executing a roll-through sweep from the turtle position with a lasso and butterfly hook:

  1. Start with a basic lasso guard, using one foot to control the opponent's hip.
  2. When the opponent stands up one leg to counter, create space and insert your leg inside, posting it against their thigh instead of hooking.
  3. Turn onto your knees and drive your head between the opponent's legs, getting onto your elbow and freeing your knee.
  4. Keep your posted leg strong as you drive your head through and extend the leg to off-balance the opponent.
  5. As the opponent's arm becomes trapped, stand up quickly, maintaining control of the trapped arm.
  6. Secure the opponent's pants with your free hand and complete the sweep to end up on top.
  7. For the roll-through, do not use the butterfly hook; instead, place both knees on the ground and bring your elbow back.
  8. Use the posted leg to push the opponent forward as you execute a front roll.
  9. Perform a technical stand-up with both hands on the ground, trapping the opponent's arm in the process.
  10. Step back and bring the opponent down to secure the top position and potentially score points.
