About this video
Transitioning from the lasso to a shoulder drag sweep:
- Begin in the lasso position, controlling the opponent's sleeve and collar, and cross your foot to create space.
- When the opponent stays back and avoids coming forward, switch your grip from the collar to their arm.
- Create space with the lasso foot, change your angle, and insert your left foot inside the opponent's legs, keeping your knee slightly sideways.
- Sit up and post your right leg on the ground, reaching for the opponent's armpit.
- As you lay back down, keep your knee close to your chest to maintain the distance between you and your opponent.
- Grab the opponent's armpit tightly and bring your legs towards your chest as you lay down.
- Scoop the opponent's elbow with your hand and use your right leg to push your body close to theirs as you remove the lasso hook.
- Transition to the armbar by taking the hook out, placing your leg over the opponent, and controlling their wrist to finish the submission.
This technique is effective when the opponent is defensive and maintaining their weight back, making it difficult to bring them towards you. The shoulder drag sweep allows you to switch the position and catch the opponent off guard, leading to an armbar finish.
