About this video

Transitioning from lasso guard to a shoulder lock involves a quick hand switch from one collar to the other to control the opponent's arm. Begin in lasso guard, placing the foot on the opponent's hip to maintain distance and control their lapel to prevent movement. Pull the opponent down and switch grips to the far collar, pulling as deep as possible.

  1. With the foot on the hip, pull the opponent down to create an angle on their arm, ensuring the elbow doesn't slip out.
  2. Bring your hand from the outside of your leg and grip above the opponent's elbow, between the elbow and triceps.
  3. Extend your leg while using your elbow to block the opponent's forearm, preventing their arm from escaping.
  4. Hook your leg in front of the opponent's face to stop them from rolling.
  5. Close the omoplata, maintaining the collar grip to prevent the opponent from posturing up or standing.
  6. Place your foot on the ground, scoot back, and apply pressure on the opponent's shoulder at an angle.
  7. If possible, reach for the opponent's other arm to finish with a shoulder lock on both shoulders.
  8. If the second arm is not accessible, adjust to a regular omoplata by reaching for the opponent's pants, posting your hand on the ground, and twisting your body to apply weight on their back.
  9. To make the opponent drop, post your hand on the ground again, stretch your legs, scoot back, and close your arm, bringing your legs to the right angle and moving forward.

Throughout the technique, maintain a strong collar grip to control the opponent's posture and prevent escape. This grip is crucial for applying the shoulder lock effectively and safely.
