About this video
Setting up an effective lasso guard involves several key details:
- Start with an open guard and dominate the opponent's sleeve with your preferred grip, such as a standard or pistol grip.
- Place your other hand on the opponent's collar to control their posture.
- Post your foot on the opponent's hip to create an angle, then lay on your side to facilitate the lasso movement.
- Use only the big toe part of your foot to hook under the opponent's armpit, avoiding full leg extension which can lead to guard passes.
- Keep your knee pointed outward to prevent the opponent from smashing your leg and passing the guard.
- Maintain a grip on the collar closest to you, as this prevents the opponent from twisting their torso and escaping the lasso.
- Ensure your elbow is pulling the opponent's arm outwards, creating tension and control.
- By keeping these details in check, you can effectively lock the opponent in your lasso guard, setting up opportunities for sweeps and submissions.
