About this video
Executing a Monoplata involves a series of precise movements to control the opponent's posture and arm. Begin by squaring up with the opponent and bringing them down, then switch to a collar grip and pull them down again. Reach above their elbow, between the triceps and elbow, while extending your leg to maintain an angle and prevent their arm from coming inside.
- Lock the opponent's arm in place and pass your leg over to create a hook under their jaw.
- Adjust your body to create the right angle, then extend and drive the opponent onto their back, posting your leg on the ground for leverage.
- Keep your body bent to maintain control of the arm and use the collar grip to assist in sweeping the opponent back.
- Drive your knee in the direction you want to move and shift your left hip to the side to off-balance the opponent.
- As the opponent starts to come up, twist the angle of your hook using your Achilles tendon to push them down.
- Continue to drive your hips and twist, applying pressure to the opponent's shoulder to secure the submission.
- Dominate the opponent's sleeve, post the opposite foot on the ground, and extend their arm to set up the lasso.
- Pull the opponent down, grab the collar deeply, and reach for their elbow from the outside between the elbow and triceps.
- Extend your leg and bring it through to reach under their jaw, then put your foot on the ground.
- Slide your hand down to the opponent's wrist while keeping your body bent, and pull them down.
- Move your knee and hips towards the direction you want to go, and as the opponent turns up, apply force against their wrist and push your leg down to finish the submission.
