About this video
Executing a calf slicer from the lasso guard involves several key steps:
- Begin in lasso guard with thumbs up the leg, inserting the hook and lifting the opponent to pass your hand to the other side.
- Control the opponent's leg and lift them onto your butt, maintaining back control.
- Switch your grip from the opponent's back to their leg, and use your hook to bring them down to the mat.
- Adjust your leg to a different angle, moving your hand to facilitate the turn, and lock in a triangle to secure the position.
- Avoid locking your triangle too low to prevent the opponent from attempting a foot lock.
- When reaching for the opponent's leg to apply the calf slicer, bring your legs towards you to avoid overextending and exposing yourself to an armbar.
- Use your left hand to pull down on the opponent's leg, then switch to an outside grip with your right hand, ensuring you grab the bone and not the foot.
- Pull the opponent's leg towards you and drive your heel and knee towards the mat to apply pressure and secure the calf slicer submission.
These steps allow for a transition to the back and provide the opportunity to finish the fight with a calf slicer.
