About this video
Executing a basic sweep from the Lasso Guard involves several key steps:
- Start by putting your opponent in the Lasso Guard, then use your right leg to pressure their body to the side, preventing them from passing to that side and neutralizing your leg.
- Block their shoulder with your hand on the collar to maintain control.
- When the opportunity arises, grab the outside part of their knee with your right hand and lock it in place.
- Extend your legs to push your opponent back, creating a reaction where they try to resist the push.
- As they resist, pull them towards you by driving your knees towards your chest, which will lift them off the ground.
- While they are floating, switch your grip to their knee and extend your right knee while driving your right hand upwards, effectively tipping them over to the side.
- Use your right foot to block their body from moving to the side where they could escape the Lasso Guard.
- Create a trap by locking their hips towards you, ensuring your foot is in the correct position.
- Push them back to elicit a reaction, and when they attempt to block and prevent being pushed back, that's your cue to bring them towards you.
- Drive the knee on the Lasso side towards your chest and open the other knee slightly to the side to off-balance them.
- When they are off-balance and floating, drive your knee towards the direction you want them to fall and push up with your hand as if throwing a punch.
- Finish the sweep by transitioning to knee on belly position, establishing control after the sweep.
