About this video
Executing a sweep from the lasso to the butterfly hook and transitioning into X-Guard:
- Start by sweeping the standing opponent with a back roll, maintaining control of their leg on your shoulder.
- Grab the opponent's head and reach your hand as deep as possible into their armpit while keeping their leg on your shoulder.
- Ensure your left hook stays in place and bring your right leg out to prevent the opponent from closing their legs.
- Spread the opponent's legs using your hook and the leg on your shoulder, applying pressure with your shoulder under their jaw.
- If the opponent hides their jaw, back up slightly and work your shoulder deeper under their jaw.
- Cross your leg over but keep your hips up, bringing your leg close to the other leg.
- Remove your hook, pass it under your knee, and stabilize by bringing their arm on top of your thigh.
- Stay low to prevent the opponent from pushing your head into a triangle, keeping your head high and close to their head to secure side control.
- For the sweep, transition from the lasso to the butterfly hook, then to the X-Guard with the hook, and execute a back roll.
- Post your left knee on the ground, stand up close, and continue to grab the opponent's arm while reaching deep into their armpit.
- Spread the opponent's legs, cross your leg to the other side, and pass your hook to the side, keeping your legs open and your head low.
- As you pass, keep your head high to avoid the opponent pushing your face towards their legs, securing the position.
